Baby Chest Physiotherapy:
Before the session the physiotherapist will listen to the chest and the back of the baby with a stethoscope in order to know where the mucus is and to determine its type.
Usually the session begins and finishes with a nasal shower.
Then the physiotherapist places one hand on the child’s stomach to compensate his abdominal weakness and another one on his chest to follow the breathing rhythm. During the expiration, the physiotherapist will press with the hand placed on the chest, which will move the mucus out of the bronchi.
Once the mucus is in the higher air routes, the physiotherapist uses a cough reflex so that the child coughs the mucus out.
The physiotherapist will repeat this cycle with a different intensity and rhythm depending on the location and the type of mucus.
Although this technique may appear a little uncomfortable, it is actually painless for the child and at the same time is extremely effective.
