During a respiratory illness, it is very important that the baby is able to get as much oxygen as possible. Although if his upper airways are congested cause of the mucus he cannot get as much oxygen as he should. During the illness he also loose appetite, but when you feed him with the bottle in his mouth if his upper airways are blocked, he will not be able to breath properly and a baby will always prefer breathing than eating. So once again you need to clean his upper airways before feeding him. It is the same for the nights and naps; if you clean his nose before sleeping he will be able to breath better and so to sleep longer and better; and so to recover faster.
